With the release of the first single, Bitter Taste, from the upcoming EP, Hybrid, Miss Elm have undergone a transformation; the masters of quirk and whimsy have spliced their signature floating vocals with heavier drums, more bass, and a ukulele case full of attitude.
The single heralds a musical release with an edge. Pure, angelic vocal tone meets dark lyrical content; boppy piano melodies interlock with pulsing percussion; Kate Miller-Heidke meets Muse.
Bitter Taste is a tale of foolish actions being called out. It restrains itself in verse and pre-chorus, sassily reminding the unseen wrong-doer of their betrayal, before launching into a punchy reprimand.
“You think it’s all a game, but it is not the same.”
But, fear not; it’s a bitter taste in name only. When shades of pop, jazz, and rock combine with honey-sweet singing, it can only lead to a flavour you’ll love.
Miss Elm invite you to leave your notions of genre at the door, and step into a space where melodica and crunchy synthesisers make perfect bedfellows.
